THE FORBIDDEN FRUIT ALWAYS TASTES? (SEEM) SWEET

Confessions of a shopaholic...

A couple of weeks back, during one of my shopping trips with Lml, I saw this dress from MNG that I thought was quite nice. Wasn't sure if I could carry it off though. Been thinking about it ever since, also contemplating on how I would go back to try it on and possibly buy it.

Had a chance to do so yesterday, especially since they were having 10% storewide discount and an additional 3% off for Isetan cardholders. (Alter ego: Don't ask me to wait until the End of season Mng Sale 'cos that will take too long and that's only for buying things that I like but not those that I really really like.) Anyway, I went to the Mng at Isetan Tampines and they didn't have it. Went down to the Isetan at Wisma and searched for it again but once again it wasn't there. I thought I'd try the boutiques instead, so I went down to the one at Taka and combed through every single rack for the dress and it wasn't there either. Not wanting to give up, I tried asking and describing the dress I wanted to a sales assistant but she didn't quite get me. No time to waste. I knew I was gonna be late for dance but still I went down and queued to get into Isetan Scotts. Not there! Feeling desperate and in despair I tried the big Mng boutique opposite Pacific Plaza and still couldnt find it. I grabbed a catalogue and ran off. 5 Mng outlets and no sight of dress. Rather disappointing. Had to rush and I literally ran to the dance studio. Whined about it and I bet Ivy was thinking what a bimbo I must be. For my birthday last year she bought me a present with Jaclyn, one proper present and one 'bimbo' present?!?!? Don't know what to make out of that.

After all the drama, I found the dress I wanted in this season's catalogue and it was surprisngly just okkkaaay. Not as mesmerising as I made it to be. After a good night's sleep and mulling over the dress that I couldn't get my hands on, I realised I may not like it as much as I thought. I never did try it to begin with. So what really is the "I really really like that dress" talk all about? I concluded it as the Forbidden Fruit Theory(FFT). The more you can't get your hands on something, the more you'd tend to fantasise about how perfect and beautiful life would be if you have it. (Not just in terms of purchases.) When you finally do get it, you'd realise perhaps it's not as perfect as you've thought it to be, not as good as you'd like it to be. That's when you'd find worms in that forbidden fruit that you thought would taste sweet. It merely seemed sweet. Isn't it strange how the human mind works. For every advocate of the FFT, of course there are those who are averse to the Forbidden Fruit. They are the 'give it to me now or leave it' kinda people. Diverse it may be but it is precisely the diversities and differences in personalities that made each individual unique and special. "nuff of digression I'm going back to options and swaps. Tgif! Oh happy day!
