HAPPY BIRTHDAY K AND T
I still remember the first day I went knocking at their door. Nervous and jittery. First time going to a complete stranger's place to teach. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing how to start.
It took some time to break the ice between us and for them (T and K) to trust and accept me. Then, she was 10 and he was 7. Fast forward. She's now 14, my Secondary 2 student. And he 11, my Primary 5 student. Time flies.
As I'm typing this I feel a little sad. I see them 2-3 times a week and after their final term exam in October, I won't be seeing them so often anymore. I really hope I wouldn't cry then. They are almost like family to me. Their mother's quite funny in showing how she cares for me. She'd give me a cube of cheese when I'm teaching and she'd say in Chinese "Eat! So that you'd grow.'' I don't need and don't wanna grow (horizontally that is). But I know, that's her way of showing concern.Although many told me that I'm seriously underpaid but for them it's never been about money but the bond that's shared. How they've integrated me into their lives. It was fun while it lasted. I decided to stop teaching as I prepare to embark on a new phase of my life. Meanwhile, I'm just glad that our paths crossed and that our lives are impacted in one way or another.
